A big moment happened at the Vatican this week. Thousands of people gathered in St. Peter’s Square, cheering and shouting, “Viva il Papa!”—which means “Long live the Pope!”—as the name of the new pope was announced.

That name? Robert Francis Prevost.

At 69 years old, Prevost has become the 267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church and will be known as Pope Leo XIV. He is also the first American to ever become pope. Although he’s from the U.S., many people also see him as connected to Latin America because of the long years he spent working as a missionary in Peru.

From Chicago to the Vatican

Robert Prevost was born in Chicago in 1955, to a family with Spanish and French-Italian roots. As a young boy, he served as an altar boy in church, and by 1982, he became a Catholic priest.

Just a few years later, in 1985, he moved to Peru to begin mission work. Over the next decade, he served as a local pastor and taught at a seminary in the city of Trujillo. He also helped people in poor and rural communities and became known for building strong ties with those often left out.

He eventually became a Peruvian citizen and stayed close to both his American and Peruvian roots, regularly visiting and working in his hometown church in Chicago.

A Life of Service in the Church

In 2014, Pope Francis made him the Bishop of Chiclayo in northern Peru. Later, he was asked to lead the important Dicastery for Bishops, a major role in the Vatican that helps pick and guide bishops around the world. By 2023, he was made a cardinal, and now, just two years later, he’s pope.

In his first speech as Pope Leo XIV, he spoke kindly of his predecessor, Pope Francis, calling him a courageous voice. He told the crowd, “Let us move forward together, hand in hand with God.”

Cardinals Gather for Second Day of Voting to Choose New Pope

The process to choose a new pope is underway in Vatican City. On Thursday, Catholic cardinals returned to the Sistine Chapel for a second day of voting.

On the first day, black smoke rose from the chapel’s chimney, which means no one was chosen yet. According to tradition, black smoke signals no decision, while white smoke means a new pope has been elected.

There are 133 cardinals taking part in the vote. They spent the night in special housing inside the Vatican and came back early in the morning to continue the process. The voting will continue until one cardinal gets enough support—at least two-thirds of the votes, which is 89 out of 133.

This election is special because it includes cardinals from 71 different countries. It’s one of the most diverse papal elections in the Church’s long history.

All cardinals have promised to keep the voting process secret, as required by centuries of Church tradition.

What Happens When a New Pope is Chosen?

Once a cardinal receives enough votes, the dean of the cardinals will ask him if he accepts the role. If he says yes, he then picks a new name as pope.

At that moment, he officially becomes the leader of the Catholic Church. The other cardinals show their respect, and white smoke is sent out of the Sistine Chapel to tell the world that a new pope has been elected.

Soon after, a senior cardinal comes out on a balcony and announces in Latin: “Habemus Papam!” which means “We have a pope!” The new pope then steps out to give his first blessing to the people watching in St. Peter’s Square and those around the world.

Who Might Be the Next Pope?

Cardinals from all parts of the world are part of this conclave:

• 53 from Europe
• 37 from North and South America
• 23 from Asia
• 18 from Africa
• 4 from Oceania

This year, cardinals from 15 countries are voting for the first time. These include places like Rwanda, Myanmar, Sweden, and Tonga. Ages of the cardinals range widely—from 45-year-old Mikola Bychok of Ukraine to 79-year-old Carlos Osoro Sierra of Spain.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan from New York is also among the 10 American cardinals involved in the vote.

The gathering was made more diverse over the years by Pope Francis, who made an effort to include cardinals from different parts of the world, not just Europe.

As voting continues, the world watches and waits for the moment when white smoke rises and a new pope is introduced.

डब्ल्यूएचओ , FAO के साथ संयुक्त रूप से वैश्विक लेवल पर सभी के लिए सुरक्षित खाना सुनिश्चित करने के लिए इस इम्पोर्टेन्ट दिवस में शामिल होने का अन्नोउंस किया है।

विश्व खाद्य दिवस का उद्धेश्य

कम उम्र का ( Texas Shooting )  युवक

अमेरिका में कम उम्र के युवा जो कि बंदूकधरियो द्वारा लोगो पर किए लगातार हमले भी बढ़ते जा रहे है। और कुछ दिनों पहले न्यू यॉर्क के बफैलो में भी एक 18 साल के युवा ने वहां के लोगो पर लगातार गोलिया चलाई जिसमे से कुल 10 लोगो कि मौत हो गई।

और अभी अच्छी तरह से लोगो के जेहन से इस घटना कि तस्वीर निकली भी नहीं थी कि एक और घटना ने उन्हें फिर से हिला कर रख दिया है। बीते मंगलवार को टेक्सास ने वहां के प्राइमरी स्कूल में एक 18 साल के युवक ने घुसकर कुल 19 बच्चो और साथ में वहां के टीचरो कि जान लें ली।

उस कम उम्र वाले हमलावर ने हमला करने से ठीक पहले उसने इंस्टाग्राम हैंडल पर एक अंजान लकड़ी से बात किया था। और उस युवक ने बंदूक के साथ अपनी एक फोटो शेयर करते हुए उसने यह कहा कि उसके पास एक सीक्रेट है। यह भी बताया जा रहा है कि वहां के स्कूल पर हमला करने से पहले लड़के ने अपनी ही दादी को गोली मार दी जिससे उनकी मौके पर ही मौत हो गई।

ब्रिटैन के अख़बार मिरर कि एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार , उस युवक ने स्कूल पर हमला करने से ठीक पहले इंस्टाग्राम हैंडल पर बंदूकों और साथ ही गोलियों कि तस्वीरें शेयर कि और साथ ही एक अंजान लड़की को टैग करते हुए उस लकड़ी को यह बताया है कि उसके पास कोई सीक्रेट है।

उस 18 साल के युवक का नाम साल्वाडोर रामोस बताया जा रहा है कि जिसने हमले में चार दिन पहले ही हथियारों की तस्वीरों को पोस्ट करते हुए साथ ही एक अनजान लड़की से बात कि थी

लड़की ने यह भी बताया कि बंदूक वाली पोस्ट और उसमे खुद को टैग किए जाने से वह लड़की डर गई थी। और इस इंस्टाग्राम स्टोरी में लड़की ने यह लिखा कि ‘ वो एक अजनबी है। में उसके बारे में कुछ नहीं जानती। उसने अपनी बंदूक वाली पोस्ट में मुझे टैग किया। और मुझे हमले में मारे गए लोगो और उनके परिवार के लिए बहुत खेद है। और मुझे समझ नहीं आ रहा कि क्या कहुँ।

जम्मू कश्मीर के प्रतिबंधित संगठन लिबरेशन फ्रंट के मुखिया को दिल्ली कोर्ट द्वारा दोषी ठहराए जाने को लेकर पाकिस्तान भड़का हुआ है। और पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री शहबाज शरीफ को भी बहुत मिर्ची लगी है और उन्होंने इस लेकर दुनिया से अपील भी कर डाली है।

पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री शहबाज शरीफ ने एक ट्वीट यह कहा है की दुनिया को जम्मू और कश्मीर में राजनीति कैदियों के साथ भारत सारकर के दुर्व्यवहार पर ध्यान देना चाहिए।

और सोमवार को किए गए एक ट्वीट में उन्होंने यह लिखा है की , ‘दुनिया को भारत के अवैध रूप से अधिकृत जम्मू और कश्मीर में राजनीति केदियो के साथ भारत सारकर के दुर्व्यवहार पर ध्यान देना चाहिए । प्रमुख कश्मीरी नेता यासीन मलिक को फर्जी आतंकवाद के आरोप में दोषी ठहराना भारत के मानवाधिकारों के हनन की आलोचना करने वाले आवाजों को चुप करने का निरर्थक प्रयास है। मोदी सारकर को इसके लिए दोषी ठहराया जाना चाहिए ‘।

प्रधानमंत्री शहबाज शरीफ का यह ट्वीट ऐसे वक्त में सामने आया है जब भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी क्वॉड सम्मेलन में हिस्सा लेने के लिए जापान पहुंचे है। और वहां – अमेरिका , जापान ,ऑस्ट्रेलिया और भारत के इस सम्मेलन के दौरान श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी सभी देशो के राष्ट्राध्यक्षों के साथ बातचीत भी करेंगे। और अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति जो बाइडेन के साथ भी उनकी द्विपक्षीय वार्ता होनी है। ऐसे वक्त में प्रधानमंत्री शहबाज शरीफ ने ये ट्वीट कर कश्मीर के मुद्दे को उछालने की कोशिश की है।

संयुक्त अरब अमीरात के विश्व मुस्लिम समुदाय के परिषद ने भी भारतीय इस्लाम पर एक किताब जिसका नाम ‘धर्मशास्त्र , न्यायशास्त्र और समकालिक परंपरा : इस्लाम का भारतीयकरण ‘ प्रकाशित भी कि है । इस किताब में इस्लाम के क्षेत्रीय स्वरूपों पर जोर देने और इस्लाम के एक रूप को ना मानने कि बात कही गई है।

इंडियन एक्सप्रेस कि एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार , इस किताब में इस्लाम के ‘ सच्चे ‘ प्रतिनिधित्व के रूप में पेश किए जा रहे धर्म के ‘अरबीकरण ‘ पर चर्चा इसमें कि गई है।

यूएई के मुस्लिम परिषद के वरिष्ठ शोधकर्ता डॉ अब्बास पनक्कल यह कहा है कि , ‘अरब संस्कृति को इस्लाम के रूप में बढ़ावा देने और साथ ही इस्लाम के एक प्रकार को मानने में कई तरह कि दिक्कतें हो रहे है।

किताब में ब्रिटिश कोलंबिया विश्विद्यालय , वैंकूवर के एक डॉ सेबेस्टियन आर प्रांज, और साथ में ऑक्सफोर्ड विश्वविद्यालय के डॉ मोइन अहमद निजामी और नालसर यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ लॉ, हैदराबाद के डॉ. फैजान मुस्तफा के भी लेख शामिल हैं।

वैंकूवर के डॉ सेबेस्टियइस आर प्रांज ने इस किताब में ‘ मॉनसून इस्लाम ‘ शब्द को इन्होने ही इजाद किया है , और यह शब्द इस्लाम कि विविधता को प्रदर्शित भी करता है। उन्होंने ने यह शब्द अरब व्यापारियों को ध्यान में रखते हुए इसको इजाद किया है , जो यह मॉनसून हवाओं कि दिशा के बाद दक्षिण एशिया कि यात्रा करते थे ।

इस्लाम को बढ़ावा देने वाले वो सामान्य अरब व्यापारी न तो किसी सरकार के प्रतिनिधि थे। और न ही वह मान्यता प्राप्त धार्मिक अधिकारी थे। उन व्यापारियों ने मुस्लिम गढ़ों के बहार इस्लाम को विकसित किया जो संस्कृति को आत्मसात किए हुए था। और तभी इस्लाम में धर्म के मूल को ज्यों का त्यों बनाए रखा गया. प्रांज का तो यह भी कहना है कि मालावार तट के किनारे कि मस्जिद हिन्दू औरन मुस्लिम वास्तुकला के मेल का जीवन का ही एक उदाहरण है।

उन्होंने किताब में दक्षिण भारत के कुछ जगह के मंदिरो और मुसलमानो ने दोनों के द्वारा पूजा किए जाने का भी जिक्र साथ में किया है।

और वही दूसरे ओर, डॉ. मुस्तफा अपने लेख में यह कहते है कि मुस्लिम शासकों ने मंदिरों को अनुदान देकर, ओर साथ ही गोहत्या पर प्रतिबंध लगाकर और हिंदुओं को महत्वपूर्ण पदों पर भी रखकर सांस्कृतिक मेलजोल को और भी बढ़ावा दिया। उन्होंने यह भी कहा है कि ऐतिहासिक किताब जिसका नाम ‘चचनामा ‘ के अनुसार , मुसलमानों ने ईसाइयों और यहूदियों की तरह ही हिंदुओं को भी अपनत्व दिया.

उन्होंने यह भी लिखा है कि कुछ मुस्लिम शासकों ने अपने सिक्कों पर देवी लक्ष्मी और साथ में भगवन शिव के बैल की आकृतियां भी उकेरी हैं।

अबू धाबी में स्थित मुस्लिम परिषद का यह भी मानना है कि भारतीय इस्लाम मॉडल ‘ दुनिया भर में मुस्लिम समुदायों के लिए बहुत ही अच्छे उदाहरण के रूप में काम कर सकते है।

यूक्रेन और रूस के बीच चल रहे इस युद्ध का आज 83वां दिन है , और बीते कुछ दिनों से रुसी सैनिक लगातार यूक्रेन के पूर्वी हिस्से पर बड़े हमला भी कर रहे है और इसकी चपेट में कई शहर पूरी तरह से तबाह भी हो चुके है। इसी बीच रूस के राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने एक और बार फिर नई चेतावनी भी दी है , परंतु व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने यह चेतावनी यूक्रेन को नहीं बल्कि यूरोपीय देशों को ही दी है।

रूस के राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने इस बार उनके नाम लेकर कहा फ़िनलैंड और स्वीडन (Finland and Sweden) को साथ ही धमकी भी दी है। व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने यह तो साफ कह दिया है कि अगर यह दोनों देश खतरा बनेंगे तो अंजाम भी भुगतेंगे होगा। इसका मतलब तो साफ है कि पुतिन समय आने पर फ़िनलैंड और स्वीडन पर भी हमला करने से भी नहीं रुकेंगे।

एक तरफ जहां पहले से ही रूस और यूक्रेन के बीच युद्ध चल रहा है , दूसरी ओर देखे तो फ़िनलैंड ओर स्वीडन लगातार नाटो में शामिल होने कि कोशिश में लगे हुए है। नाटो के जो प्रधान सचिव है उन्होंने टर्की के विदेश मंत्री से भी बात की है। परंतु , टर्की ने इन दोनों देश फ़िनलैंड ओर स्वीडन को नाटो में शामिल होने का पूरा विरोध किया है।

फिनलैंड देश के पीएम ने नाटो में शामिल होने के प्रोसेस को एक शांति का रास्ता बताया है। वही दूसरे ओर स्वीडन के पीएम ने यह बताया है कि उन्होंने आधिकारिक तौर पर भी नाटो कि सदस्यता के लिए पहले ही आवेदन  दे दिया है। ओर इसी बीच रूस के राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने सीधे तौर पर फ़िनलैंड ओर स्वीडन को सबसे बड़ी चेतावनी भी दे दी है।

रूस के राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने यह भी कहा है कि , ‘ नाटो के विस्तार के लिए गठबंधन में अभी नई सदस्यों (फ़िनलैंड ओर स्वीडन ) को शामिल करने को लेकर आपको यह बताना चाहता हूँ , कि रूस को उन राज्यों से कोई भी समस्या  नहीं है। इस संबंध में उन देशो के साथ जुड़ने से हमारे को कोई भी सीधा खतरा भी नहीं है , परंतु , इस एरिया में अगर सैन्य बुनियादी ढांचे का विस्तार निश्चित रूप से हमारी प्रतिक्रिया को भड़काएगा. हम यह देखेंगे कि हमारे लिए तो कोई खतरा पैदा तो नहीं हो रहा है।
