Dry Days Alert In Delhi; Check Major Events Here

New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has announced that there will be six dry days in the national capital during the three-month period from October to December.

In an official notification issued by the Kejriwal government on Friday, the excise department said as many as 637 liquor shops run by four government departments will remain closed on these days:

  • October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti
  • October 24 – Dussehra
  • October 28 – Valmiki Jayanti
  • October 12 – Deepavali
  • October 28 – Valmiki Jayanti
  • November 12 – Deepavali
  • December 27 – Guru Nanak Jayanti
  • December 25 – Christmas

The Excise Commissioner of Delhi is empowered to announce dry days on occasions such as religious festivals and birthdays of important personalities of the country. The authorities ususally announces dry days on festivals in order to control law and order situations. Those who will be caught violating the rules will be subjected to punishment.

Apart from liquor shops, all other establishments, such as bars and clubs that serve alcohol will also be closed on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. According to officials, excise license holders are not compensated for dry days.
